"Balancing College, Writing, and Hobbies - My Experience as a BBA Student"

Starting college feels like stepping into a whole new world - new people, new experiences, and of course, a never ending list of assignments. But what happens when you have passions outside of academics? For me, that means balancing my BBA studies, writing, reading, and singing - all of which are equally important to me. And trust me, it's not always easy!

As a first-year student, I'm still figuring things out. Some days, I feel like I have everything under control. Other days? Not so much. But through trials and error, I've learned a few things about managing time without losing sight of what I love.

Making Time for Writing in a Busy Schedule

Let's be honest - college life is BUSY.
Between attending lectures, completing assignments, and preparing for exams, finding time to write feels like  a challenge. But writing is my escape, my passion, and something I don't want to put on hold just because I'm busy.

So, I've started following a simple rule :
Even 15-30 minutes of writing counts. Whether It's drafting a scene for my novel or jotting down ideas, I try to stay connected to my stories everyday. Some ways that help me fit writing into my routine are :

  • Using small pockets of time - I write in between classes, during lunch breaks, or before bed.
  • Setting realistic goals - Instead of forcing myself to write a full chapter, I focus on writing even a paragraph or two.
  • Staying inspired - I keep a notebook ( or my phone's note app) handy to jot down random thoughts, dialogue's, or scene ideas.

Managing Studies Without Feeling Overwhelmed :

Since I'm pursuing a BBA, academics require a lot of  attention. I can't just ignore deadlines ( though, let's be real, I've been tempted). So, here's what I do to balance everything :

  1. Prioritizing tasks -  If I have an important assignment, I finish it first and reward myself with writing time afterwards.
  2. Planning ahead - Keeping a simple to-do list helps me avoid last-minute stress.
  3. Taking breaks - Whenever things feel too overwhelming, I take a step back, listen to music, or read something light to refresh my mind.

Why Hobbies Matter ?

Writing is my passion, but singing and music are my stress-busters. Whenever I feel stuck or exhausted, I turn to music. Singing helps me relax, while reading fuels my creativity. I believe that having hobbies outside of studies, keeps me sane and prevents burnout.

If you're someone trying to judge multiple things at once, here's my advice :

Make time for what makes you happy. It doesn't have to be hours - just a little time everyday for yourself can make a huge difference.

Final Thoughts -

Balancing college, writing, and hobbies is a work-in-progress for me. Some days, I feel super productive. Other days, I struggle to get anything done. And that's OKAY.  What Matters is that I KEEP GOING.

If you're a student trying to balance your studies with your passions, know that you're not Alone!
